Critical peace, justice and human rights studies is a minor that provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the complex nature of human rights, justice, peace, and peace building work as well as hands-on experience with local, national, and global human rights organizations. Students in the program develop an awareness that humanity can and must find alternative means to resolve conflict—means that do not include war or violence.

The minor prepares students for a wide variety of advanced study and careers, spanning the fields of law, politics, education, medicine, business, nonprofit management, community development and advocacy.
The overall focus on social justice and human rights complements Adelphi University’s existing strengths in International Studies, the Levermore Global Scholars Program, and work with the United Nations.
