  • 8:00-4:30pm: Guided Civil Rights Tour (bus leaves Montgomery to visit State Capital, Dexter Ave. Baptist Church, Southern Poverty Law Center, lunch) [Cost of tour includes lunch].
    • At 8:00 a.m. we will load the bus from the UAB Hill Student Center (1400 University Blvd). The bus will be parked at the 14th Street small parking lot adjacent to the Hill Student Center.

It is our intention to visit a few remarkable places in Alabama’s Capital city, Montgomery, to get a better grasp of the ways in which the Civil Rights Movement took hold and spread throughout the state and then the nation. We will be travelling by charter bus from UAB to Montgomery, where we will tour the historic capitol and learn of its mixed legacy regarding civil rights, visit the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church where the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. gave sermons, and explore some organizations that are continuing the fight for justice and equality in the heartland of the movement as we transition from the idea of civil rights to human rights. Lunch will be provided.
