We achieve our mission through projects conducted in the community and workshops and weekly sewing sessions conducted in our shop. We have a vision of becoming a hub for sewing related activities that promote empowerment, education and economic opportunity. Whether you're an avid sewing enthusiast or new to the world of needle and thread, there is a place for you at Bib & Tucker Sew-Op! For more information, visit our Facebook page or our website.

The March Quilts

In 2015, Bib & Tucker launched an annual community art project called The March Quilts. Each year, the project chooses a theme of civil or human rights and sheds light on that theme through open sewing sessions held in libraries, schools, community centers and public spaces. This year, the project celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Loving V. Virginia Supreme Court ruling that knocked down the ban on interracial marriage in that state and set the course for the rest of the country. In its inaugural year, the project celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery marches. 15 sewing sessions facilitated in Birmingham, Selma and Montgomery yielded over 450 blocks which Sew-Op members then made into three quilts. The project shed light on the gender pay gap in 2016. Each year, a logo is created that represents the chosen theme and fabric colors are chosen to reinforce the theme as well. Facilitators at sewing sessions show beginners how to embroider and appliqué and blocks are collected over a period of months before they are turned into The March Quilts.
