Lodging and Accommodations

TRAVEL INFO -- From airport to hotels, hotels to conference, and parking:

For all conferees the best limo service is "Airport Connection." It is $13 one way.

The public bus from the airport to 6th and Wisconsin is #80. It stops at 6th and Wisconsin (next to the Hilton, Doubletree and one block from the Ramada. People going on to the Ambassador would get off at 6th and Wisconsin and transfer to a west bound bus on Wisconsin and get off at 23rd St. (Remember to ask for a transfer.)

Conferees will either walk or take the bus to the campus in the mornings. Buses run every ten minutes. It is about 1/2 mile to the Hilton, Doubletree, and Ramada. The Ambassador does offer complimentary limo surface to campus.

In the evenings Marquette limits will transport conferees to their hotels free of charge. An insert in the packets will show pick up points.

The University Parking Structure is at 13th and Wells (one block north of Wisconsin Ave.) The Thursday evening rate is $3, all day Friday rate is $5, and the all day Saturday rate is $3.

Getting there and away

Info from Lynne Woehrle:

Dear Conference goers:

At the moment there is a huge airfare discount competition going on for flying into Milwaukee. Check especially Midwest Airlines and Airtran and maybe Delta/Northwest.

You might want to check out Chicago, it is easy to get an airport bus from the Chicago airports to drop very near to Marquette (at the Milwaukee train station). For those flying into Milwaukee if they don't want to rent a car, they might look into whether one of the 7 Amtrak trains per day from the airport to downtown fits their schedule. And the same busline also stops at the airport in Milwaukee. The Chicago O'Hare airport is just 70 miles away.

However I-94 between Chicago and Milwaukee is under construction so expect some delays, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours on week days. Midway airport is about a 2.5 hour drive from Milwaukee and you have to get through the whole Chicago area, so not the most convenient.

The local buslines are not great (Milwaukee is still a car dominated city unfortunately) but Marquette is fairly accessible by public bus. It is also very walkable from the majority of downtown hotels. The local bus #80 goes from the airport to downtown, you can check the schedule on the website.
