2008 PJSA Conference: Travel and Housing

Please note: Portland State University, the site of the conference, is easily accessible in downtown Portland. Attendees will be able to take light rail directly from the airport to downtown for only $2. Hotels, restaurants and places of interest are all within easy walking distance from the conference. Conference volunteers may be able to secure housing for free in the local community. Please fill out the housing request form, and we will get back to you before July 1. If you are able to HOST visiting students and volunteers, please complete this form. We only ask that hosts provide a space for sleeping and stashing gear, plus bathroom access.

HOW TO GET TO PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY


By Railroad/Bus/Max Light Rail

From the Portland Amtrak Station (800 NW 6th Ave) or the Greyhound Station (across the street from Amtrak 550 NW 6th Av), board bus #9 at SW Broadway and Hoyt. This stop is southwest of the train station. Get off #9 at Broadway and Market and continue south to Portland State University. For more information on using Public Transportation consult TriMet.

From the Portland International Airport using Public Transportation
The Portland Int'l Airport MAX Light Rail Station is located near the baggage claim. First, purchase your ticket for $2.05 (Adult All Zone) at the ticket vending machines. Then, board MAX Red Line to either "City Center" or "Beaverton TC." There are two options for how to proceed after boarding the MAX:

OPTION ONE: Get off the MAX at Morrison SW 3rd Avenue MAX Station. Walk north to SW 3rd & Alder. Board the #17 Bus "Holgate to 136th Ave ." Get off at SW 1st & Lincoln. Walk two blocks west (uphill) to University Place, 314 SW Lincoln (which is in front of Portland State University). Total transit time is approximately 60 minutes. OPTION TWO: Get off the MAX at Library stop (at SW 10th) and then board the trolley south (uphill) all the way to the stop just after SW 3rd (see map). Walk two blocks south (or uphill again) to University Place, 314 SW Lincoln (which is in front of Portland State University). Total transit time is approximately 60 minutes. By Car
Most streets surrounding the PSU campus are one-way streets. Consult the Google map below for direction of travel. Check out information on parking at PSU here.

Coming From the Portland Airport:
Head southeast onto NE Airport Way. After about 2 miles from the airport merge onto I-205 S to Portland. Take exit 21B to merge onto I-84 W/US-30 W toward Portland. Stay on I-84 W for about 5½ miles, stay in the middle or left lane and take the exit onto I-5 South towards Beaverton/Salem. Stay left and take the left exit onto I-405 N toward Beaverton/US-26/City Center. After ½ mile take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Ave. Turn left at SW Montgomery St. Turn left at SW Broadway. From points North, from Vancouver:
Head south on I-5 into Oregon. Continue on I-5 South for about 8 miles. Take exit on the left onto I-405 N toward Beaverton/US-26/City Center. After ½ mile take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Ave. Turn left at SW Montgomery St. Turn left at SW Broadway. Arrive at PSU. See Google map of PSU below.
From points South, from Salem:
Head north on I-5. Take exit 299B on the left to merge onto I-405 N toward Beaverton/US-26 W/City Center. Take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Ave. Turn left at SW Montgomery St. Turn left at SW Broadway. Arrive at PSU. See Google map of PSU below.
From points East, from Troutdale/The Dalles:
Head west on I-84. Continue on I-84 (don’t take exits for I-205). After Lloyd Center exit, I-84 splits into I-5 North and I-5 South. Stay in the middle or left lane and take the exit onto I-5 South towards Beaverton/Salem. Stay left and take the left exit onto I-405 N toward Beaverton/US-26/City Center. After ½ mile take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Ave. Turn left at SW Montgomery St. Turn left at SW Broadway. Arrive at PSU. See Google map of PSU below.
From points West, from Hillboro:
Head east on US-26 (Sunset Highway). Exit onto SW Market St/US-26 E toward City Center. Turn right at SW Broadway. Arrive at PSU. See Google map of PSU below.
