Prince Myshkins - Biography

The Prince Myshkins (Rick Burkhardt accordion, and Andy Gricevich, guitar) have been working together since 1995. They met in college in Illinois, where Rick was studying music and Andy was studying literature, and pretty soon they were travelling around the country performing original plays and songs with a group of rambunctious Midwestern utopianists.

After a few intense years, Andy needed some new scenery and Rick needed a new degree program, so they moved to San Diego, where Rick enrolled as a music composition student at UCSD. Since then they've been seen in coffeehouses and theatres all over San Diego, performing their original satirical folk cabaret songs

The Prince Myshkins have played for many activist organizations and events, and are regularly featured as KPBS San Diego's "resident satirists" They also composed and performed an original score for "The Sound and The Fury" at the La Jolla Playhouse in 1998, along with their own arrangement of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's "The Seven Deadly Sins."

Rick and Andy have taught workshops on songwriting, poetry, and theater, and are both eager performers of contemporary classical music for anyone willing to listen.

In 2000 the Prince Myshkins released their debut CD "Shiny Round Object", produced by Illinois songwriter Paul Kotheimer (a member of the original Midwest incarnation of the group) for the Handmade Record Label,.
